No Phones in School Zones

New Law Bans Cell Phone Use in School Zones
Posted on 10/30/2025

Starting November 1, 2025, it will be illegal for drivers to hold a phone in active school or construction zones anywhere in Oklahoma.

Why this Matters for the ASTEC Community

School zones — especially during arrival and dismissal when many of our scholars are entering or exiting campus — are high-risk for distracted driving. This law supports our goal of keeping scholars safe.

Drivers approaching our campuses or nearby drop-off/pick-up areas must be extra attentive. No holding phones = fewer distractions = safer environment for our scholars and staff.

It reinforces the importance of modeling safe behavior: when families, staff or community members drive near our campuses, abiding by this law helps everyone.

What the Law Says

  • Hands-free or voice-activated use is OK
  • No texting, scrolling, or holding your phone
  • Emergency 911 calls are still allowed

This law helps keep our ASTEC scholars, families, and staff safe—especially during morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal. Let’s all do our part to stay alert, follow the law, and protect our school community.
