ASTEC Plans for Futsal Court

Construction Begins on ASTEC Futsal Court
Construction is underway for the ASTEC futsal court and volleyball court. Early November is the scheduled completion date. The court will be located at General Pershing site, the home of ASTEC Elementary School and the future home of ASTEC Middle and High School.

Futsal is a variation of soccer that is played indoors on a hard court that is slightly larger than a basketball court. The game is played between two teams of five players each, including a goalkeeper. The ball is smaller, heavier, and has less bounce than a soccer ball. Players have less time and space to make decisions, and the ball moves faster and bounces less, which requires precise ball control and quick thinking.

Futsal is recognized by FIFA as the official indoor soccer game. The word futsal comes from the Spanish "fútbol sala". Futsal is played at club and international levels.
Futsal is faster and more intense than indoor soccer. Futsal is played on a hard court without walls, while indoor soccer is played on turf with walls. Futsal is played with a special low-bounce ball, while indoor soccer is played with a normal soccer ball.

Stay tuned for progress on the project!
