3rd Grade Academics

Language Arts

Third-grade Language Arts transitions scholars from learning to read to reading to learn. They analyze story structure, identify main ideas and supporting details, and compare information across texts. Scholars write organized paragraphs with clear topic sentences, supporting evidence, and conclusions. Through vocabulary study, speaking, and listening, they refine their communication and strengthen comprehension across all subjects.

Mathematics

Third-grade Mathematics develops multiplication and division fluency and strengthens problem-solving strategies. Scholars use place value to round and compute with whole numbers up to 1,000, explore fractions as equal parts of a whole, and measure perimeter and area. They interpret data using graphs and relate math concepts to patterns in daily life. Application and reasoning anchor mathematical learning across the curriculum.

Social Studies

Third-grade Social Studies expands understanding of Oklahoma’s geography, culture, and history. Scholars use maps and globes to identify physical features, trace early Native American contributions, and study community development over time. They examine how citizens make choices about using natural resources and how rules support fairness. Emphasis on civic values and local heritage promotes respect for diversity and community pride.

Science

Third-grade Science invites scholars to explore forces, life cycles, and Earth’s systems. They observe how balanced and unbalanced forces affect motion, study how plants and animals adapt to survive, and investigate how weathering and erosion change the land. Scholars collect and interpret data, form conclusions, and communicate findings using models and writing. These experiences build curiosity and scientific literacy.
