5th Grade Academics

Language Arts

Fifth-grade Language Arts refines comprehension, writing, and research skills to prepare scholars for middle school literacy. They read complex texts to determine themes, compare perspectives, and evaluate evidence. Scholars write narratives, opinion pieces, and informational essays with clarity, organization, and precise language. Vocabulary development, discussion, and presentation strengthen their ability to think critically and communicate effectively.

Mathematics

Fifth-grade Mathematics deepens understanding of fractions, decimals, and volume. Scholars add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and decimals, use place value to solve multi-step problems, and interpret numerical patterns. They apply measurement concepts to calculate volume and represent data in graphs. Emphasis on reasoning, efficiency, and application prepares scholars for advanced mathematical study.

Social Studies

Fifth-grade Science integrates earth, life, and physical science concepts to build scientific literacy. Scholars investigate how matter changes states, model the movement of water through Earth’s systems, and examine how ecosystems maintain balance. They explore how energy transfers between objects and how human actions affect the environment. Through data analysis and experimentation, scholars develop evidence-based explanations of natural phenomena.

Science

Fifth-grade Social Studies explores the history, geography, and civics of the United States from early exploration through the formation of government. Scholars analyze causes and effects of colonization, the American Revolution, and the drafting of the Constitution. They study regions, economies, and civic principles that shaped the nation’s growth. Critical thinking and historical inquiry equip scholars to understand the responsibilities of citizenship.
